Things to Know Before Buying a Massage Chair

Massage chairs have evolved far beyond their humble beginnings as lounge chairs with built in vibrators. The improvements have made the chairs truly wonderful therapeutic devices. The physical and psychological benefits are very real for anyone of almost any age. But as the complexity of massage chairs has increased so also has the need for the consumer to know what they are getting into when they buy one. So if you plan to buy one here are a few things you should know before hand.

Most modern massage chairs have several different types of massage motions and it is recommended that you try to get one that has the following three massage techniques. The first type of massage is commonly called Shiatsu. This is a massage method that kneads your back muscles horizontally from side to side on either side of your backbone. Real Shiatsu is much more complicated than this but that is the basic idea. There are also several different types of Shiatsu massage so make sure you understand as much as you can about what the Shiatsu mechanism in the chair is doing to your back. The second type of motion is a gentle thumping or tapping up and down your back like little chops or a shower massage. The third motion is a roller motion up and down on either side of your spine. This lengthens and relaxes the spine and back muscles. Most chairs combine these motions into automatic programs. Some automatic programs vary the intensity of the massage and others vary the type of massage so understand the differences between the different programs as best you can.

Many of the best massage chairs now offer leg and foot massage. These generally do an excellent job and are highly recommended. Some have arm massage mechanisms but these have not proven to be as effective as the back, leg and foot massage. Most massage chairs recline to improve the massage. If you can get one that reclines a full 180 degrees you maximize your weight on the massage mechanism and enhance the benefits of the massage.

You may think that the best massage chairs are made with leather but they are actually made of vinyl and other synthetic materials. Many of the top massage chairs have build in heaters and leather simply will dry out and crack if subjected to a lot of temperature changes. In the same manner leather will not stand up to the constant motion of the back rollers. The synthetic material used in a good quality massage chair is designed to handle the constant motion of massage whereas leather would crack and deteriorate. Some companies will promote the leather in their massage chairs as a sales gimmick but the truth is you are better off with a good quality synthetic or vinyl chair.

You will want to make sure you understand the warranty policy on the chair. Modern massage chairs have lots of motors, controls and electronics in them so if your chair breaks for some reason you want to know before you buy it how it will get repaired. Most massage chairs will never break but if the main massage motors stop working after one week you don't want to have to put the chair in a shipping container and pay to send it half way around the world to get it repaired. Ideally it would be nice if someone locally came to your house to fix it if needed but the idea is to know before you buy what you are getting into as far as warranty and repairs are concerned.

Different Forms Of The Massage Chair

Treating ourselves to massage is one of the many gifts we can give ourselves; and one we fail to give often enough. It has been shown time and time again that massage holds strong physical and emotional healing properties; the likes of which can relieve stress, induce calm, and speed physical healing. But too often, we have neither the time nor the money to treat ourselves to a full body massage. Fortunately for the time-deprived among us, the massage chair has made the power of the healing massage both affordable and accessible.

When people speak of a massage chair they are generally speaking about one of two things: the first is a portable chair that professional massage therapists use to stabilize their clients and provide full access to the back, neck, and head; the other is a vibrating chair that is controlled by the user to provide stimulus to particular areas of the body.

The massage chair used by therapists is generally a collapsible piece that can be folded and taken along with the therapist to different appointments. Such a chair is often used in the workplace where the professional fifteen minute chair massage has become a popular perk to offer stressed out employees in the corporate world. The chair is designed in such a way that the client sits backwards on it. There is a seat on which the client straddles; a face cradle ? a donut shaped cushion that allows the user to rest their face inside a cushioned ring; a sternum pad that supports the chest; arm rests, and often a place to rest your legs. With the client in this position, the therapist can access all back muscles, the neck, the head for some cranial work, and arms and shoulders. A chair massage is often a shorter massage than when the therapist utilizes the massage table; but it can be relaxing and rejuvenating nonetheless.

Another form of the massage chair is that which can be found in salons, spa, and even in homes. They are custom built chairs of every material and color that provide vibration ? sometimes in conjunction with movement that can simulate the movement of a hand ? over different parts of the body. Depending on the scope of the chair that you experience, you can often feel just as energized after leaving this particular chair as you would leaving a professional therapist.

Some chairs only work on the back; these are often used in conjunction with pedicures in spas or salons. The client has the ability to ? by adjusting it through the remote control ? change temperature, strength of vibration, zone in which the movement is occurring (i.e. lower back, upper back, etc.), and the adjustment of any simulated movement. But there are chairs today that work on the back, while your feet and legs are massaged in the lower portion of the chair. Some of the designs are just incredible. And depending on your budget, and the space availability in your home, they could be a difficult purchase to decline.

A massage chair ? in any variety ? can offer a quick pick-me-up over the course of a busy day; and in fifteen minutes, turn your world around.

Portable massage chair gives confidence and comfort to patient

Normally, patient need to lie on their massage therapist?s table for a relaxing massage, but some people may feel too vulnerable to lie down while you work on them. New Technologies Make Massage Chairs a Viable Product for Families

Premier Health Products, a leading manufacturer of robotic massage chairs, now offers a new technology that allows users to customize the massage chair to fit their individual body size. This technology, coined BioFit Technology, makes owning a massage chair more feasible for households with members of drastically differing heights.

Premier has added BioFit technology to their recently released PHP-2025 stretch massage chair to boost summer sales, and compete with industry giant Panasonic (http://www.premiermassagechairs.org/massage-chair-2025.html.) Though Premier Health Products still feels that no single chair is best for all, BioFit technology makes the PHP-2025 a great choice for many. Combined with a multitude of top of the line features and an attractive price, once again we feel that Premier is a brand that should not be overlooked.

BioFit technology does just what it says, it adjusts the chair to fit the user's unique frame. Beyond the clever name, the technology itself is quite simple, yet effective. For years massage chair brands have been cashing in on body scanning technologies that tailor the massage to the users. But many of these body scanning systems measure width and contour and leave height out of the equation.

?We wanted to make a mid priced massage chair that was as versatile as our high end chairs for the price conscious user,? says Jon Campbell of http://www.premiermassagechairs.org/index.html. The result was the PHP-2025 complete with BioFit, the world?s first height programmable massage chair.

Taller users (over 6 feet) tend to need a massage chair with a longer stroke length to cover the range of their back and neck. The problem with this occurs when shorter users (under 5 feet 4 inches) sit in the same chair, the massage rollers spend too much time on the back of their heads and even above it. Not only is this a waste of the massage chair's extended abilities, but it can actually be uncomfortable for the user.

With BioFit users can manually program the PHP-2025 to any one of five different height settings. The chair then adjusts the length of the rolling stroke to an appropriate length for users of various heights, both short and tall.

As stated earlier, there is no one massage chair that is best for all, but if ever there was a massage chair that came close, the PHP-2025 with BioFit Technology is it. It is versatile, strong, attractive and affordable. Certainly a great addition to Premier Health Product?s line of massage chairs.

A Look at Shiatsu Massage Chairs

The term “shiatsu” refers to a form of Asian massage. This traditional massage uses techniques of digging deep into the muscle tissue to ease out knots and relieve tension. The shiatsu technique can involve patting, rotating, sweeping and vibrating the affected areas. Another popular technique is the “barefoot shiatsu” in which the therapist walks on the back of the patient to remove tension.

Many of today’s shiatsu massage chairs are designed to imitate human touch. These chairs are often useful in the treatment of headaches, digestive problems, back pain and more. The benefits of shiatsu massage chairs can be likened to an actual massage. The difference is that with a massage chair, you can reap the benefits of this popular massage from your home at any time you wish.

New shiatsu massage chairs have buttons the consumer can choose from for different options. These options include kneading, pulsing and tapping. The key to getting the most from your massage session is to relax. If you are more tense than usual, you may be uncomfortable, and in some cases bruising may occur. To get a relaxing massage, relax and start out slow; limit your session to no more than fifteen minutes.

Shiatsu massage chairs are certainly at the head-of-the-class when it comes to massage chair therapy. These are probably among the most popular designs and those who have purchased them often say that they would never give it up.

If you are reluctant to the idea that a chair can provide a soothing deep massage, you should go try one out. Chances are that a store near you carries several lines of massage chairs and the salesperson will be happy to let you take a test massage. Although many people comment that the chairs are far from attractive, the massaging benefits are well worth lack of stylish appearance.
